The top of Modica to the shores of Donnalucata

Coffee in Sicily

In the heart of Sicily, amidst the land of pasta and gelato, we ride mostly downhill from the enchanting town of Modica to the sun-soaked shores of Donnalucata.

Our biggest challenge today is riding back out of Scicli,  a lovely town perfect for a  coffee break but a long uphill climb to get us back on track to the sea.  Most of the trip, however, was a scenic and pleasant downhill ride to Donnalucata on the Mediterranean Sea.

Our stop also includes visiting our bike operators olive, almond, carob and herb farm.  What a lovely and educational visit.  Did you know buying extra virgin,  cold-pressed olive oil is the most nutritious?  Oh,  and that a 200 year old olive tree will still produce olives?

After settling in,  we enjoyed lunch at our beautiful little villa and then walked along  the promenade for an evening stroll and dinner.

It was a lovely day that wrapped up our bike trip with Alastair and Wendy. We had a great time riding with them,  but now we say farewell.  They will carry on to bike some more with new Peeps, and we will explore the Island of Malta.

Arrivederci Sicily,  thanks for the memories and sore keister.
