To the end of the world

Our journey to the end of the world starts by taking a ride in a little old train, on a railroad of historical significance. It was used to transport prisoners who were sentenced to work in this remote location with expectations they would stay here to live and populate the area once their sentences were complete. Many, however, did not stay, and now it's a tourist train transporting travellers.

After the train ride, we bus through Tierra del Fuego national park to visit various locations including the last post office and the end of the Pan American highway.

The end of the world post office is a cool little shack on shore with an interesting and friendly postmaster who has been here for years. We buy and mail postcards to our kids from here, wondering how long it will take for them to arrive.

For the evening we all walk along the shore and around town. It was a great way to spend our first full day around Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world with our new friends.
