Wild Serengeti
Our game drives in the Serengeti have been spectacular! Heaven our guide has delivered us some amazing sightings.
Early in the morning we witness vultures and storks devouring a zebra carcus that lions have recently chased down. It appears as though vultures are on the top of the food chain.
The lions take down the zebra and eat unless the hyenas come in to take over. The hyenas eat until the vultures come in and take over. Then the hyenas come back for any scraps. We arrive as the vultures chased the hyenas away. It is the craziest feeding frenzy where you can not even see the carcus for all the birds fighting for their take.
The vultures tear at the flesh and if there is an opening the storks come in to try and grab loose pieces, as they do not have the ability to rip and shred the way the vultures can.
We watched the feeding frenzy for a bit, left to see more sights, and when we returned about an hour later the carcus was virtually just bones. It's insane how quickly they devoured the zebra.
We soon find ourselves in a dry water bed that has lions sleeping in the dirt. Its not a hot morning, so they are out in the open just relaxing, not caring that we have stopped for a visit.
Later in the day we are so excited to see an entire family of lions feeding on yet another zebra. It's a bad day for zebras. First we watch a lion drag the zebra to the tree where the rest of the pride is, and then we see the females and cubs dig in. The cubs, are so adorable, you feel like you could just pick them up and cuddle, but then you see them try to bite into the zebra and are quickly reminded otherwise.
We also passed a hyena today that from the side looks very pregnant but is not. They just have very big bellies after eating.
The following morning is an early wake up so that we can enjoy a sunrise balloon ride. What a spectacular view from the air and a beautiful morning for a balloon ride!
On todays drive we spot another pride of lions with cubs a little older and still absolutely adorable.
The wildlife sightings here are endless.
