Our final day in Africa.

Victoria Falls, Zambia

For our final day, we crossed the border into Zambia for a walking tour to find some white rhinos and view Victoria Falls from the other side.

We visited Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to part of Victoria Falls. I love the park’s name because “Mosi-Oa-Tunya” means “the smoke that thunders.”

The white rhino is the third largest African animal, after the elephant and hippo, and is protected in the national park; however, poaching is still an issue. They have guards working 24/7, trying to protect them. Since we were on a walking safari, we also had to have Steve, our park guard, along to protect us from any potential rogue animal attack.

Walking among the giraffes, zebras, cape buffalos, and rhinos was also an educational up-close experience that I enjoyed.

We stopped for lunch at the Royal Livingston Hotel overlooking the top of Victoria Falls and then walked to the falls to check out the view from this side.

The view was stunning, and the walk was often like walking through a rainstorm, especially when crossing the bridge that had howling winds and rain from the falls. This time, we did not wear raincoats and just embraced getting wet.

We also hiked down the picturesque Batoka Gorge to the boiling pot below the Victoria Falls Bridge. The boiling pot is a launching site for rafting during times when the water is lower, but definitely not now, as the water was swirling with great force.

We walked back into Zimbabwe to our hotel, freshened up, and then went out for our last meal together in Africa.

This was such a fabulous trip with Norm and the kids. Thanks to Jaco Beukman for guiding us on an amazing adventure! If you're thinking about an African adventure I highly recommend booking with him.
